Default Lense

I see many places saying it has the same lense as the HV-10, but it has not. If you read the specs at Canon, or the japanese review, you will see that the filter diameter has increased from 37mm to 43 mm. That is 16% bigger diameter / radius. This allows 35% more light to hit the sensor. But of course, this is only 1/3 of an f/stop.

The main reason the HV20 out performs the HV10 in lowlight is the 24p option. When shooting in 24p you really see the lowlight capabilities of this camera. Please look at the videos page for a lowlight sample I just uploaded:

Check the review on www.camcorderinfo.com. They mention how good the HV20 is in low-light especially in 24p Mode. And the two clips on YouTube...while not exactly in "low-light" wasn't exactly well lit either. You might want to check those out too.

I'm new to this. Am considering a HV20. Was wondering what footage would look like in 24p. As some old camcorders have had a hard time in this mode. Or so the review said. I thought there would be noticeable stacatto effect but I didn't see it in those 2 short clips. Looked fairly smooth to my untrained eyes.

But the only thing I don't like about the HV20 is that it uses tape and not a hard drive. Perhaps they'll offer a 40GB hard drive in the HV30.

Btw...how much HD record time would you get in either 1080i or 24p modes?

Thanks!

I have posted a low light sample under the video section for the HV20:

The HV20's low light performance is amazing and I am sure you will not be disappointed. I will try to post some low light sample on this website soon.

I will download the clips, too. I?m very curious about the lowlight capability of the HV20. Thanks for uploading the clips.
