Question How does the SD video look from the HC7?

Does anyone know how the Standard definition video looks from this camera?
I know the hd is incredable, but i will have to be shooting and editing some
sd as well. Thanks.

I heard that there is no sense in recording SD by HD camera.
Do you want easy editing? Just record in HD and then transfer it into your computer in SD. The quality will be always good. And you have HD quality on your tape, just for better times.

Yeah, just record in HD, edit in HD and convert the final ouput to SD.

Default i'm more familiar with avid, but might have to edit in fcp.

I have some fast turn arounds so i was hoping to edit in avid,
which is what i'm used to. i don't think avid has released an hd version as of yet, that's why i was asking about sd. If what everybody is saying is true however, i might just have to suck-it-up and edit in fcp.

My 2 cents.

I have HC3. Owned HC1 before that. I use Vegas Platinum for editing. So far I have been shooting HDV and converting to DVDs. DVD footage shot with HC1 looks like HC3 HD (exaggerating a bit). But seriously, HC3 downconverted footage looks quite a bit softer than HC1. HC7 has even more effective pixels than HC1, so I played with the footage from hC7 found online, and so far I think that down rezzed HC7 footage looks every bit like one of those cams used to shoot movies. Also, another reason to shoot HD and then convert to SD is to avoid all of the interlacing artifacts of lower resolution sensors. And the footage looks more professional overall.

Does most software now accept editing of the HD files?

Nope, only Sony Vegas.

Hi!

I don?t agree the only Sony Vegas accepts HDV footage.

Just a view editing programms that accept HDV:
-Adobe Premiere Elements
-Magix Movie Maker
-Pinnacle
-Final Cut
etc.

OK, you got me on that one. I was a few months behind on the software.

The latest versions do support HDV.

I own a HC7 since a couple of days and from what I have seen SD with an HD cam looks much better than a normal DV cam. I dunno for 3ccds for single ship that is clear, mostly due to larger sensor I think, but I am not expert here.
