Default Widescreen setting for HC7?

I've noticed some mention of "regular and widescreen shooting with the touch of a button" for the HC7.

How does this widescreen setting compare to using a wide angle lens? I've seen some wide angle lenses that support this camera for $30-150

Can anyone comment on what widescreen formats are supported (16:9, etc.)? And is there any tradeoffs to the video quality between different formats?

The LCD is listed as 16:9. I haven't seen any mention to a ratio in widescreen mode.

I'm just wondering what "widescreen" mode for a video camera means. When I use a wide angle lens with an SLR camera I can expect it to distort distances and curves straight lines slightly. I know the same goes when I've used a wide angle lens with a videocamera. I'm just curious what the "widescreen setting" means and how that will affect composition of the shot.

maybe its referring to the DV and HDV modes. DV records in 4:3 by default and HDV records in 16:9 standard.

But as far as "curving and bending," I think it crops the picture. instead of stretching it. Judge by the number of pixels.

Default The cam is already widescreen

So there is no need to change anything in native mode.

I doesn't,
Widescreen or 4:3 is just a frame format, wide angle lens is an optic glass that changes focal length of the camera
