1080i60 and 1080p24

With 1080p24, I think it uses 2:3 pull down to record it in 1080i60 then in the video editor you just use inverse telecine to convert it back to 24p.

The HV20 is 1080i. There is no Consumer base cameras that records 1080p yet. There are Pro Consumer cameras that do thus but they are $5,000 or more.

Default 720p 24fps

I think the 24 fps footage (cinema look) is 720p.

It does 24p.

Quote:
Borrowing from the professional grade XL H1, XH G1, and XH A1, the HV20 now offers a “24P Cinema mode,” which refers to two separate features. First, the HV20 allows for true 24P frame rate. This is similar to the 24F frame rates of the professional models but because the HV20 has a progressive CMOS chip rather than an interlaced CCD, the name has been changed to 24P. Canon engineers were quick to assert that the visual effect would be extremely similar in both modes.

24P is not the same as 1080p. 24p refers to the frames per sec.

In any case and even if the camera is et capting 1080 the registerd outcome on dv tape is in 1440 x 1080 (4/3 format). with non square pixels horizontal stretching to fit the 16/9 display (kind of wasted pixels, but this solution seems to be sharper compared to native 1440 camcorders like Sony hc1) . This 1440 1080 rule is general in actual generation camcorder. This is probably done to minimize the file size (12 gigas) to fit on an 1h tape and maybe for easier processing ?

BUT ONE THING I HEARD..

in an HDV the max resolution u can get is only 1440x1080
even though the hv20 records at 1920x1080 it is down sampled to 1440x1080

so is it really 1080p24?? ;O

THERE IS NO CONSUMER 1080P CAMCORDER THAT WILL RECORD TRUE 1080P VIDEO @ A 24P FRAME RATE ONTO A HDV TAPE AS OF NOW. PERIOD!

The point you are missing is that it is capable of SEEING 1080p video but can only PROCESS 1080i video using a progressive frame rate. The HDV Standard is limited to 1080i. At this point there is no way around this unless you used the HDMI out and used some other type of recorder to record the video.
