Everything about the picture quality is great, the detail, color, light levels, etc. except there is too much visible noise in the picture especially when viewed on a large display.

Forgot to mention that I tried all levels of noise reduction on the HDTV and could still not hide the noise even though the footage was taken in a well lit situation.
The footage was viewed on a 70 inch top of the line Sony SXRD. |

Have you tried reducing color on the camcorder itself?
AVCHD format is known to be quite noisy. Also, try using the manual exposure control: get "zebras" on and lower exposure until very little of zebra's remain. Post if anything changes. Or it could just be the bad encoding engine on the camcorder. |

Only with 25Mbps AVCHD codec settings you start go away from video artifacts (HD+ setting). This bitrate only gives you 10 minutes footage on a single-layer DVD recording media. It's time to go keep miniDV tapes for a while.

I was told the same thing by someone else, and although I really wanted an HD 5.1 camera, I settled for a Conon XL1s. Hopefully it will serve me well until AVCHD actually goes somewhere.
