Pixel count is importante but is not the only factor in video outcome of a camcorder. what is more important is mesured video resolution that the camcorder can realy display (real world conditions) on a monitor and that depends on internal processing. camcorderinfo.com is regularly reviewing new camcorders.
Other factors include low light noise reduction processing. Low light is the usual condition where you can see that pure resolution is not the only factor to determine output quality

Agree,

somewhat,

"more important is mesured video resolution that the camcorder can realy display"

Well, you won't get much resolution if you don't have enough pixels. Especially when there is too much interpolation and pixel-shifting.

As far as lowlight, HC3 has a smaller sensor, but also a smaller number of pixels (1/3" 2100k gross), whereas HC7 has almost the same sensor, but a higher number pixels (3200k) making it not much more better in low light and video noise.

However, if there's not enough perceived resolution there always will be an unsatisfactory feeling like: "(sigh), it could be better," resulting in constant nagging of yourself for making a poor decision. So, it does kinda matter if there's enough pixels. The image just looks sharper. Quite sharper.

On the other hand, FX7 has less pixels, it upscales the video, but the lowlight capability isn't the best either. In fact, it's quite poor compared to Canons. (Of course, they have better smoothing technology, but still, just doesn't cut it.)

Wait and see what will be the mesured outcome of the comming JVC hd everio with three tiny CMOS and and small pixel count using interpolation processing to compensate low pixel cout

Check out the video I uploaded from my HC3. Look at how details are there, but overall picture is really fuzzy. I bet same thing's gonna be with JVC.

CH3 detail quality was discussed on other forum to compare with sharpness of other hd camcorders (HC1 for instance ). I have chosen my HC1 upon detailed comparrative reviews (one good german review for instance) and available footage to compare myself. I won't hurry to suspect the same thing of JVC comming Everio hd7 or comming pana .What matter is neutral reviews and comparrative footage of the same scenary in the same time like that german review does. And camcorderinfo of course that does a more laboratory type of comparative tests.
Another parameter that many persons dont take in account is sound if sound capturing is important for them (happy with my sony HC1 since I shoot vocal choir concerts and I don't need any external microphone. Will be ready to share footage of that).

I said it in the other post, but I miss my old HC1. Wish i kept it. The mic was excellent, similar to the one XL H1 has. Resolution was exceptional, I never shoot in dark anyways.

Maybe XH-A1 for my next cam. or even an HV20
