Yeah, big problems- (You need a cable for everything.)

If you mean HDMI out- no, it's not a problem. You can use component. HDMI simplifies things a bit, but it's not really a necessity.

The biggest advantage to having an HDMI jack on a camera is to output the video ti a computer without any compression. If that is a need of yours then HDMI is the way to go. The bad news is an HDMI PCI card for a PC is about $1000 right now.

so it uses rca cables instead? My plasma tv uses hdmi so it would better for me to look for a camcorder that uses these?

HDMI is the ideal standard for Hi Def. If you already have a TV that supports it you get a camcorder that supports it as well.

You should wait until the HV20 comes out and somone reviews it. That looks like the camera to get for the next few months anyway.

The only problem is the auto-x/ time attack track season is coming. I want to get a good camera to mount to my rollcage in my auto-x car. Plus my car club is wanting to make a promotional video to get more people racing on the tracks were its safe and not on the streets.

HC7 has HDMI output. It's supposedly a nice cam, too.

The only drawback to HDMI is that you will see what you record.
Analog cables smooth out the video a little, so with RGB cables for example you would see less blockiness and other artifacts, whereas with HDMI you will see everything. If you have and LCD- it's best to use analog connections, for plasma- it doesn't really matter.

hmmm..... Thanks for the info. I dont have hdmi to my computer anyways and I heard those cards are very expencive. I do have a 55" plasma so that might be nice to have hdmi connection.

I hate shopping for this stuff.....
