Hi All,
I've been shooting with the XL H1 20X HD lens for a year now, and the new x6 manual iris ring zoom lens arrived last week. WOW! Huge definition on it, still a bit of aberration on the widest angle settings under some apertures... but essentially the ultimate lens for this camera. I've been shooting recently on a sailing ship, and although the anti-shake on the 20x lens is good, with the 6x lens, and the manual iris, you can get better control of depth of field, in addition to a more pro look on the field of vision. The lens is heavier, and needed a rebalance on my Manfrotto tripod to get the camcorder to sit central. It also works very well in 'run and gun' situation, with the wider angle making for more natural pictures, and easier to get steadier looking shots when handheld. I'm hoping Canon will make this an option on the XL H1 when buying. My intent to get a second XL H1 would definitely materialise quicker if it came with the x6 lens as an option. |

Hiya .as we say on the UK side of the great ocean .. that's the 'correct' hand drive ;-)
I can upload a shorter 1080P clip ... it's 50MB otherwise. I'll be shooting some 50/60i next Friday from a ahelicopter ..weather permitting... so I'll be uploading it next weekend. Thanks for the comments! |

Have you noticed any color aberrations or undersampling rather?
I've heard Canons suffered from that. How bad is it? Also, how's the dynamic range? Highlight handling? I'm just curious- planning on maybe XH A1 as the next cam, said to have same characteristics as XL H1. |

Hiya,
This camcorder is certainly better than the others I've tried.. the Sony Z1U I owned for a year .. never got such good pictures out of it as I'm getting from the Canon XL H1 .. loads more color definition .. which of course shows up any lens aberrations.. but hey! .. you get DETAIL in the color .. and the x6 lens has a much lower level of aberration .. the Z1 had about the same.. but was so soft by comparison ..that you didn't notice it as much ..I'd reckon the XH A1 to be about the best quality for the money out there at the moment. My own opinion only ;-) |
