Default which wide angle lens ?

Hello All,
I just bought an HC7 and from what I have seen so far I am very impressed with the overall picture quality along with some of the manual settings. I had a crappy JVC dv before so the jump is easy for me.
Anyway I am consedering buying a wide angle lens to put on top of the cam which. Coming from the photo world I clearly set scenes whatever ones actually on 24-28 kind of angle. I saw sony and raynox offers and the sony is twice as much as raynox. Given the HC7 is HD what would you recommend ?
Thx for your help.
As soon as I will get more tuned to the cam I'll post feedback on the HC7 btw.
Cheers

Default Wide Angle Lenses

Hi!

You should use a pro Wide Angle Lens (High Grade) for your HC7 like the Raynox 5050. It has a threat on the front, so you can add a filter for protection. Check the pictures on their website.

Be careful if you want to buy a sony WALens, cause there are 2 different one´s:

HG0737Y: black, heavy ca. 300 gr., older model
HG0737C: silver, lighter ca. 200 gr., new model

Both of them have no front thread, but you can add a filter between the cam and the WALens if you need a filter.

Which one is better for you?
The y-model: adds more weight to the cam--> cam is more stable
The c-model: is lighter
Check for your self, what is better for you.

Sorry for my bad English+Spelling but i´m still learning.

Thx for the advise, I think I'll shoot for the raynox one since it is clearly cheaper than the new sony one. I'll let you know the result. Don't worry for the english I am not a native speaker as well.
Cheers

Default distortion

I noticed that the raynox is .5 and the sony is .7 Is there much distortion with .5 vs .7? Has anyone used both? What kind of difference does it make? I'm looking to catch more space indoors but I want to avoid a fish eye effect.
Thanks

Hi!

Sorry, but the price-class for an almost non distortion-WA-Lens is very high.
It?s so high, i got no clue....but you should rent a lens, test it and buy it then. The pictures on the raynox site match with the reality. (Sorry but is this understandable? My English is very poor.)
Second thing is, you could remove the distortion in post-production.

I would check out the Raynox HD-6600 pro. It is a high grade lens and at .66x creates no distortion. I believe a .50x lens will show some noticeable distortion. It is 43mm so you would have to get a step-up ring.

Your English is no worse than mine!

I've tried some under $100 wide lens, never paid attention to the brand because I found them unusable. I noticed with those cheap adapters I'd get a middle of the frame in perfect focus, no CA- but the entire frame looked as if the "Radial Blur" effect was applied. Sharp center faded to blurry edges, all around. So I quit on wide lens for now.

However, the specs for Raynox 5050 claim 600 lines of rezo, while Raynox HD-6600 has 350+.

Any body got some footage with it?

I'd love to see the lens in action.

What filter would that be exactly? Do you know?
