I've done some basic editting and production in the past (just for personal use) using Pinnacle Studio. Many things I hate about it and some things that I really like. v10 is supposed to support HDV and I was wondering if anyone that uses Vegas has used Pinnacle. Any comparisons or recommendations between the two would be great.
Thanks, Steve |

I have used both and Vegas 7 is a much better program. Pinnacle makes you purchase all these add ons that were not included, it's almost like trialware when you paid over $100 for it. Pinnacle is for home users and Vegas is for semi-pro advanced users. Pinnacle would always crash on my computer and take hours to render video. Vegas 7 is much more stable and faster at rendering. It also has the ability to use multiple CPUs or Multiple Cores. Pinnacle looks like it is using only one core or CPU to process video. Just download the trial version of Vegas 7 from Sony's website and test it out. I think you will find it is a better program once you learn how to use it.

Yup, I've had many of the Pinnacle crashing issues as well, much to my frustration. I tried the demo and was incredibly impressed and what can be done there for the price of the software. I tried a few other apps as well, but Vegas really does offer a lot for the money.
I'm now happily working with my HV20 and Vegas+DVD package. Thanks for the recommendation! Steve |

Steve,
Congratulations on the HV20 and Vegas 7. I am very happy with the combination as well. Another great program I would recommend is: WinAVI Video Converter. This program can covert your Raw .M2T files to WMV, Realplayer, AVI, MPG or create a DVD file that you can burn straight to DVD. The best part of the program is it is ultra fast to covert files. In fact I have never seen a program convert files to DVD MPEG standard so fast. Check it out. Good luck to you and I hope to see some sample videos soon. Jae |
