I'm sure that Mac will eventually support AVCHD formats in it's editing programs. Don't let the current lack of editing support on Macs for AVCHD be a deterent. It's only temporary. Having said that, I'm very happy to continue using HDV for HD video- I love my Canon HV20.

If I'm not mistaken, Final Cut Pro 6 can handle AVCHD footage. In the spec sheet, it says :
# AVCHD support is supported only with a Mac Pro with an Intel Xeon processor. # DVD-based AVCHD camcorders are not supported in Mac OS X v10.4 or earlier. This seems to suggest there is some kind of support for the codec. My guess is it transcodes the footage to ProRes 422 or Apple Intermediate upon import. |
