I think it is worth to pay more money and get HV20 instead of HV10 (which I have). HV20 has much more functions (for example progressive scan) and it is better to hold in your hand. Now I would buy HV20.

I was going to buy the HV20 until I heard the high pitched tape motor sound in most samples (except for one strange enough). I returned the HC3 for the same reason (and was much worse).
The HV10 seems not prone to this looking at various user footage but first have to test it in store if I can hold it comfortably.

If there's a good HV20 external small mic solution I'd go for it but so far reading other forums you still pick up the mechanism (with the Canon external mic at least). Anyone successfully found a solution here?

The next best bet is to use Adobe Auditing or other to create a noise profile and then filter it out. I tried little bit but since I don't have a HV20 to create a good profile it's difficult to say how well this works. The problem is the frequency range is quite high at 6-8kHz so you will filter out other stuff.

And this is the problem for me, it is simply too small or rather my hands are too big for HV10. It is impossible for me to start/stop or use zoom without significant shake of camera.

I just tested this today in a local store and certainly not easy to use the start/stop button. I could use it but very akward and I certainly don't have big hands. I guess you could use your other hand...

I think I'm going to decide to buy the HV20 and I can always return it if the audio is not good enough for me.
