The HC7 is 1080i. You would have to do some sort of conversion in post to get 720p. I'm not sure how it would look.

It would like the same on 720p HDTV.

It'd look horrible on 1080i.

My experience is that whenever I do a 720 it looks exactly like 1080 on a 1440*900 PC monitor. (viewed fullscreen)

So if I got it right, If I shoot in 1080i mode, and I have 1080i TV - it would be OK. If I have 720p TV - it would be OK as well.
So why should I consider shooting (or converting to) 720p at all ?

I would like to ask you the same question.

generally it is better to keep original rez. videos just in case. You may upgrade in the future and having 1080 would be a major plus. On a 720p screen- both 1080i and 720p look the same (except that you can convert 720 to 60p for maximum smooth motion.)

The real difference is a large 1080 screen where you need max resolution for perfect viewing.

I just wandered why I'd want to get 720p, if footage shot in 1080i mode can be viewed on both 1080i TV and 720p TV, that's all.
In any case I will archive original tapes, as well download edited clips back to tape in addition to store them on DVD.
