Is there a big difference between this and the HC7?

I would like to know too. No review as of yet of the 4 new Sony models that came out in Feb 07 on camcorderinfo.com.

well the probably biggest difference is the fact it doesnt use minidv, or hdv, but instead it uses the like 3 inch dvd's (multiple types) and i'm not sure about the 7 but the 1 and 5 dont have firewire (from what i could find in research, correct me if i'm wrong)

The avchd camcorders are going to use usb 2.0 in place of firewire. And the panasonics will use sd cards that you can transfer the footage from.
