It all depends on your needs (simple éditing versus complexe editing and also workflow : big workflow versus few editing). it depends also of course on the budget you want to use for that

I prefer using Final Cut Pro due to its stability!

Simple editing : Ulead VideoStudio , Pinnacle Studio and other

In between : Sony vegas, Premiere or final Cut (but with Apple only)

Sofisticated editing : mixing up many video projects in differet standards etc: edius4 etc

I have used most of the major editing programs and I find Sony Vegas 7 to be the best most reliable video editing software. It is not cheap but it works great on Windows and is very stable.

Right jaelupo sony vegas is a very good product for the price range;
the only draw back concern work flow (no native proxy or smart render to spare render time) ; the whole video is renderes even for a small cut . I never used vegas but thats what I am reading . You have to add specific program to do that .
Otherwise it seems to be a great product abd easy to go with. What is your own experience about it compared to other?

Toni1 to me Vegas 7.0 just works plain and simple. It's very easy to understand and very easy to learn new concepts and techniques. You are right about the render time, you have to render the enire video. You can cut and paste a particlular section into a new time line and just render that section or get a special plugin to do the same thing. I think for most people in the $500 price range it is a good program. If you have a thousand or more dollars there are better programs out there like Final Cut Pro.

The problem with Adobe Premiere PRO is that there are no big updates for it.

I think hdvsplit will capture and split : not very sure about editing capacities (not much probably)
if you don't want not expensive (50 dollars) solution Ulead MF6 is good for simple hd editing
here below are the links
