Default smooth slow rec

Hi. My first post here...(need a minute to relax)

I was about to buy the hc3 but now the 7 looks like a better toy so I found this exelent forum and its very informative considering the time its out for sale.

Anyway, I didn't find a ref to hi speed rec. Its not a key feature like image quality or handling which discussed plenty but-

If anyone has tried smooth slow rec kindly share.

If you are quick and prepared you might catch some pretty "unusual" moments in slow motion.

How it works:
You navigate the LCD menu to SLOMO. (yes, navigate, or rather run the corn maze)
Once you hit the record button it buffers about 3 seconds of action. (capture at 240 fps)

It then writes the video to tape for about 12 seconds.

Once the process starts there's no way to abort it. If you missed the subject, you missed it for good.

The only major drawback is that quality is worse or equal to SD video.

Is there a way to do post or mid-start record? In other words, can you have it running and then after you see the kid make the goal (within say 2 seconds) hit the record button and have it capture the action that just happened? I thougth this camera could do that, but I could be confusing it with some other camera like the V1.

Do you have more options for a longer time period than 3 seconds ? I was thinking of this feature as a tool for analysing my (admittedly poor) golf swing and 3s is maybe too short .....
