Final cut pro or Vegas video if your on the pc.

Although both Final Cut Pro and Vegas are well rated, I've been using Avid Xpress Pro HD for a number of years and love it. People have cited learning curve issues, but I found it to be very intuitive. Avid allows me to mix formats from DV to High Definition in the same time line. Avid has excellent support forums and there are online video clips showing a lot of the basics.

I tried imovie aftger i first got the machine, but was frustrated with it....now it's just final cut (on my mac)
