miniDV is 10000 times better because is more flexible

you get better quality and you can edit as many times you want without loosing quality

when using hd or sd , the movie already gets compressed , and when you want to do your final dvd you will end up with a loss in image

What are you comparing miniDV to? The HC7 is a miniDV camera, and so is the GS500. They both use compression, DV vs HDV. Just not sure what you are getting at.

do SD card storage systems vary much from HD-based ones?

Well, SD cards are removable for one thing while HDD based ones are not. The problem with SD cards is that they are quite pricey but sure to go down in the near future. HDD has a lot of space and is faster, but if you run out of space you'll be out of luck, I think. However compared to miniDV both have lower bit rates. DV has a bitrate of around 25 mpbs while AVCHD and HDD are capped at around 13 mpb
