Default HC-7 test drive

My HC-7 came in last week. Nice unit. I wish the fold-out screen was as good as my Panny DVX-100 as well as the wide angle format and color saturation. I haven't purchased any accesories for my HC-7...such as the memory card so I can't comment on the resolution of the still images yet.

The playback through the supplied RCA cable onto an my XBR2 SD TV was nothing short of amazing in terms of detail and clarity. Low light performance shows some artifacts but I haven't tried Night Vision yet.

Unfortunately, I don't have an HD TV yet. Everytime I want to buy, something better keeps popping out from the manufacturers.

I should be able to make this judgement/opinion next Friday. I have PS3 and my blue ray movie should be here so I can make a comparison on SD and take the unit to a friend's house that has a 1080p TV.

The HDR-HC7 claims to take 6 megapixel still photos, but has a three megapixel sensor. Does anyone know how they are doing this? The technical explanation?

I am guessing but this is fairly standard/common, it's called interpolation. They "guess" the required surrounding pixels from the 3M pixels that are present. ie. look at one pixel look at the ones next to it and then guess what would be there if there was another in between, but of course using mathematical algorithms.

Used in still cams, web cams etc.

yes, you are correct, it is classed as interpolation.

Interpolation is not as good as a real 6 mp camera!
