Default HDR-HC7 to PC problems

I'm trying to connect my HDR-HC7 to my Dell over USB, but not having any luck. Does anyone know if I need to have a memory stick installed before I can talk USB? Also, the Ilink cable doesn't physically match the IEEE1394 port on my Dell Latitude. Anyone else run into this?

Thanks!

Howdy!

welcome to the crowd,

USB port on HC7 is only for pics that are stored on your mem stick.

You'll need a FireWire, or i.Link, or IEEE1394 port in order to transfer videos to PC. If your PC don't have a port you can buy a firewire card (like this: http://www.amazon.com/Startech-com-I.../dp/B00006B8C3)

I didn't get any response when USB was plugged in, but didn't have the memory stick yet either. Will pick one up and see if it works. Finally got Firewire working- I had the right cable, just a tight fit and too late at night!

Saw that Camcorderinfo gave the HC7 a less than stellar review. Hopefully my own shots will prove them wrong!

Congrats!

May i suggest somthng for improving the shots?

Go to menu-
find "zebra"-
turn the 100 on-

Hold the button next to "the dial"
select "exposure"
push the lill' button again to select manual exposure
scroll down until only the brightest objects have "zebras" on them.

The reason- if the whole image is too bright it tends to blur the image. Lowering exposure tends to make the video a little sharper.

play with the settings and you'll notice the improvement.

P.S. Don't lower the exposure too much, you'll loose detail. Having min zebras is about perfect for excellent shots.

Thanks- I'll give it a try. What are your thoughts on Sony vs. Sandisk memory sticks? I just picked up a 1 gb sandisk at Best Buy for $25- seemed hard to be when Sony was around $50. I don't plan on using this as my primary digital camera, but nice to use if necessary. Any reason not to use Sandisk?

Well, the same company makes them both- you pay for the premium name brand. Otherwise- they are the same.
