The HC7 has been reviewed against the JVC HD7 and the HV20...according to camcorderinfo.com the HV20 has better image quality. Build is a different story though.

Agree, I suspect that one maybe reason for stoping so early the production of HC1 is its semi pro expensive production

Default Actually bouhgt the HC7

Bought the HC7 a Circuit City a couple months ago (under $1200)
Image quality is fantastic. Noise does show up in low light conditions without the "night vision", but I couldn't be happier with my purchase (I never shoot videos in low light anyways)
The camcorder handles great, lots of options.We have a Samsung HD TV at home...I am pretty amazed at video quality on an HD screen. Way beyond my expectations.
I would post a video, but the compression wouldn't do it justice.
Just buy an HDV tape...go your local store, try it for yourself, and see the results (that's what I did).

HDV tapes are expensive , I never use them (maybe wil for very very special occasions);
I use sony normal dv tapes that are much much less expensive and upon what i gothered in other forum you wont even notice a difference (not one drop out of pictures after one year with my sony HC1 ( since that is the main issue with high def with GOP : groupe of pictures instead of one picture by one in normal definition).
Hope its helpfull
