Been to a nearby Fry's. Played with the HC7. Footage coming soon.
First impressions- overall image is just a tad sharper than HC3. At least the human face shot upclose shows more detail and is less blurry. Otherwise, save your pennies for HV20 (if that won't disappoint as bad as HC7). Check the Videos section in the next 24 hrs. |

I am looking to upgrade to HD and the hc7 has many outputs. I have used it a few times and under controlled ighting, it looks like gr8 HD. In not so ideal situations, you can barely tell it is HD.

Outdoor shots in the backyard reveal the need for a neutral density filter or manual adjustment. My daughter's face is overexposed in my opinion...perhaps I should try "XV" color mode plus "spot meter". But you need to try the Macro function with ideal lighting...it's really good! |

What does everyone think about a high end consumer HDV cam like the HC7 vs. maybe a more prosumer 3 ccd DV? I'm going to be making video tours of homes for sale and would love to say that they are in HD, but if the video would be better with a 3ccd regular DV, that may be the way to go...

Hello guys,
I think its about time we stopped comparing SD to HD. SD will NEVER be even ever so slightly close to HD- maybe on a screen the size of an iPod. If you need every manual control possible and you broadcast on cheap station and you realize that you can do that only for a limited time- go ahead and buy a DV. Otherwise, 1. HV20 will beat any prosum DV in terms of overall image quality 2. Downsampled HD looks good, if you really need SD for broadcast. 3. All TV is to be digital (HD) by Feb 2009. 4. No reason to waste money, except due to abundance of it. 5. With a little in cam tweaking and post processing VERY positive results are possible from consum HD. P.S. Stay away from SONy. Maybe I'll allow a BD recorder, but no cams. |
