Thanks for the link...I'll check it out. There seems to be a lot of interest in this Canon HV20.

Most footage shot indoors doesn't come out well on camcorders unless you have extra lights on or lots of windows with sunlight.

Regarding your question about how the HV20 would hold up in extreme condition; I would say it would hold up the same as any other camcorder. I always buy a protective lens that is clear and screws over the original one. This will keep the original lens scratch free. If you are really worried about the camera you can build a Plexiglas box to put the camera in to protect it.

Regarding your traffic footage sample; I will try and shoot some in the next few days and upload it to Listvideo.com

Thanks Jae for the idea about the clear lens cover to protect the lens, that would help to keep the sand out of the lens area.

I would say most of my filming would be outside in full sunlight, but its good to know I could still shoot some indoor footage with some additional light. When filming indoors do you have a menu function to compensate for fluorescent or incandescent lights?
Thanks
Jake

How is the access for battery recharging? On my old Elura the jack was under this annoying plastic tab. Is it more accessable on the HV20?

Is the zoom toggle switch at least usable? Can you get fine control with it, or is it driving you nuts? That thing is one of my main stumbling blocks with this camcorder.

Regarding the battery charging; the jack is in the back of the camcorder right under the battery and there is no cover over it. I like it, it's very easy to just set the camcorder on my desk and plug it in. No issues here.

Regrading the Zoom toggle; I am a little less impressed here. The toggle is very short only a few mm high. There is a zoom control in the options to limit the zoom speen no matter how hard you press it but, there are only 3 settings and none of them are fast enough for me. I also like to be able to control the zoom speed on some shots and not on others. It is much to hard to change the zoom settings in the menus between shots. Overall the toggle is not bad but could be improved.

I just don't belive how designers in Canon can't make a nicer looking camera. You have to agree that this camera is so boring for the eye! It's shame that this excellent camera have such old fashion look.

I also ordered this cam some days ago ... I'm very impatient about the result in low-light conditions. I already bought a Canon WD-43 (not a WD-H43, unfortunatelly). When I will receive my cam, I will post some videos with this lens ...
