I have a few questions-- I'm new to filming in HD, and I'd like to start with the XH-A1, but what do I need to know about file size in capturing footage?
With my GL2, 1 hour of SD quality took up about 13 gb of space... but I'm having a hard time finding out what options I'd have with the XH-A1... I don't know enough about it and it seems like all the information is written for people who already understand it. :P Exactly what options do I have for how much space and time and tape I'd be using with the XH-A1. Thanks! |

(In other words, I've heard that filming in HD takes about 1 gb per minute of footage, is this true? Does this differ with Canon's HDtapes? The only HD I've ever even worked with is Panasonic cameras with P2 cards... and I didn't really even understand that. :/ )

1 hour of hd (mpeg-2-hd with 1440 x 1080 res)takes the same amount of space than normal sd.
GL2 is registered on tape in an uncompressed (avi) format that will be compressed after editing (in standard mpeg2 format) in order to fit into a 4.7 giga dvd High def camera registers to tape in an already compressed format (around 30% of size), thats why they will boath occupy 1 hour tape Hope it will help |
