Interesting. I just tried the same, and it already says they're out of stock on line.

So I see it's now out of stock to order, but my order page still shows shipping tomorrow..so either that's wrong, or I got one of the few they had...

Now I'm getting even more confused. Is the JVC GZHD7US supposed to be better than the HC7 or HV20?

Well, the jury is really still out on whether it's a better camera. I have yet to see enough footage samples to compare it or thorough reviews. We're all still waiting. It sounds like a great camera, with lots of controls, 3-CCD, hard drive and/or SD card recording etc. etc. I've seen what the HV20 can do, and have played with it in a couple stores. I'm overall very impressed with what I can get for the money with the HV20, and unless the JVC HD7 offers a substantial improvement in pic quality, feature-set and in-hand feel, I'll definitely go with the Canon. The JVC will be a substantial price jump and harder to justify.

Interesting. I have not been able to get my hands onto the HV20 yet. I'm a little worried b/c people have mentioned that the build quality was poor. Digga, have you tried any sony camcorders and can you compare the quality of the sony camcorders to the HV20? thanks

vibiwan, I bought both the Canon HV20 and the Sony HC7 at the same time. The build quality of the Sony is much better than the Canon. The Sony feels very solid and refined. THE HV20 really feels cheap in the hand. However, I kept the HV20 because of the superior video quality in low light and because of the ease with which the HV20 can be adjusted with it's manual settings. It is way better than with the HC7. The joystick and function button at the back of the HV20 work great. The HC7 is MUCH more time consuming and finicky to adjust on the fly. The control dial system on the Sony is terrible, in my opinion.

I'm in Australia, and when the GZ-HD7 goes on sale here it will cost about $500 AUD more than it does in Japan and the USA ($2750 AUD). I've found a place on ebay that's brought them over from Japan and is selling them for $2200 AUD (roughly the USD/Yen price).

Do you guys think that would be worth getting? The camera has Japanese characters on some of the buttons, and the Japanese plugs rather than the Australian equivalents (though the guy says he'll supply the adaptersfor it). Would buying a privately imported cam from Japan be worth it for the reduced cost? Will I still get the JVC warranty with it? Does anyone have experience with getting equipment this way, or buying camcorders duty-free at foreign airports?
