Sony Vegas 7 is Ok maybe the best choice for value : stable good reputation
Pinnacle Studio 9 is no good (old architecture, unstable have to add patches for hd)
Pinnacle studio 11 is based on intierly new architecture : advantage : good learning curve

Sony Vegas is really good if you want a quick edit. It's pretty easy to learn and get used to, I would know since my brother only took a few weeks or so to get really comfortable with it. Personally I use Final Cut Pro.
