Default Sb4200

Hi i have an american made SB4200 Can i use it over in the U.K to recieve cable signal? If not how do i change the set-up so i can apart from changing freq plan as this doesnt work i need more help please.

Yes you can use them here. You can flash the firmware the same way as a UK SB4200, if it's locked you need a RS232 interface.

You can change the frequency plan by either installing fibreware and clicking on reset defaults - but fibreware can be difficult to remove. You can also install Sigma then telnet into the modem to change the frequency plan.

Some firmware's have the netboot disabled so you can't flash them over Ethernet - have a look at the Haynes Guide, it goes into details of what to do.

When i connect the RS232 serial to the SB4200 and press 'p' to stop auto boot nothing happens i dont get to see anything else it just starts scanning!!

have you got the network cable plugged in
you probably need both rs232 serial and network ethernet cable plugged in

Pressing any key should stop the boot, I usually press enter.

If you are seeing data in the Hyperterminal window, but can't send anything, you may have the wires connected wrong from the RS232 to your modem.

just remembered i had exactly the same problem, i flashed a webstar recently and had the same problem,
it was the com port setting 'flow control', change it, i dont know what you got it on at the moment but change it between 'none' or 'hardware'

managed to get hyperterminal to display and able to see modem main menu Its just the TFTP server i cant get right cn some1 tell me how to set one up please??

been a while lol...... this modem i gt from the tc**so site. its not the same inside as uk 1 power is diff and the silver tuner part looks diff. i flashed the moddy with the fibreware but it still keeps scanning doesnt want to lock on. maybe its not compatible with br**ish networks.
