Channel 4 is considering scrapping subscriptions for its FilmFour service.

It may put the movie channel onto Freeview next year.

FilmFour currently has about 400,000 subscribers at £7 a month, helping to break even, but Channel Four is reported to see little prospect for the service's expansion. If the channel switched to Freeview it would carry advertising.
