Default Suggestions for FTA beginners guide welcomed

I'm going to write a beginners guide to FTA satellite reception as a starting point for novices to the hobby.

I'd like this site to be the best place for newbies to get started, and to spread the word to the millions of folks across Europe that don't realise that there's an alternative to subscription satellite services with national boundaries. Any suggestions for inclusion in the guide would be very welcome.

Please post them here.

I'll start with FTA unmotorised, and then write a guide to adding a DiSEqC motor. Finally, I'll add a guide on how to add decryption methods and alternate paid subscriptions.

All suggestions welcome, please contribute.

good idea.

also info about the satellite arc, and how to work the sat meter. would be a good idea.

i bought one for me digidish after i moved, connected it up, just spun the dish around(didn't know what i was doing, the sat meter came off e-bay, in a german box with no instructions, was numbered 1-10. and made a beep when you turned up volume) and kept checking the tv, till after a couple of minutes i got the sky menu up,with the signal,strength/qual;ity meters.

and sort of went from there.

just luck, the lnb was bolted in its rightful position from my previous home, and i had the next door neighbours to copy.

keep up the good work, i'm actually gonna atempt to install a motorised system because of this site

thanks again for all help i've received in the short time i've been here..

Good idea m8. Still getting to grips with it here have managed to get Hotbird Eurobird and Astra 19E so far. Managed to watch the Liverpool Man City game on Sunday on Canal Deporte 2 with me SS2 so was a happy bunny. Would like some advice on getting some of the other satellites though especially 1W which I used to get when I had me analogue D2mac Set up

You're very welcome m8. Good luck with your install. We'll be here if you get stuck. We'll also get round to writing those guides soon too
