There is a plugin available for the Dreambox which is in effect a cut down version of VLC.
In fact, a version is built in to some images now. I've not used this personally (I use the standard VLC client installation) but I'm told it works very well. I'll give it a try when I get time, and if it checks out, I'll post it here. I believe that this plugin should also work on the other Dreambox models (though maybe not the 500). If you can prove or disprove this, then please let us know. |

VLC is VERY good. However, I could not get it to pick-up a stream from my Dreambox. If you figure out the trick as to how it can pick-up a stream from the box let me know. Right now I have been using it as a stand alone client on my computer. Once I record a movie I FTP the files into a directory on my computer. I use VLC to watch them because it has a .TS codec.

Hi Lanman, and welcome to the forum.
I've used the stand-alone VLC client to watch video streamed live from the Dreambox on the PC very successfully. The Dreambox can even be in standby mode. In my house, that's a great bonus as the DB is daisy-chained with the Sky digibox, so using the streaming means I don't get shouted at for hogging the telly! Tell you what, I'll write a quick how-to with some pics and post it up here for you. In fact, I'll do it now while it's fresh in my mind ![]() I also know folks that can only get this to work on FTA channels. It appears that the Dreambox CPU is not really up to the job of performing the soft decryption and the streaming at the same time. The PLi Citrine image struggles, but my DaVinci 5 is fine. The new PLi Diamond is supposed to be a lot more efficient in the emulation department now, as the team have re-written the code which handles the Enigma/emu client server relationship making it much faster. They have now released this code to CVS, so it may become the new standard in future images. HTH |
