I've had a quick flick through this, and there's some useful stuff in there. Too much to take in during one read, that's for sure - but looks OK.
Can't vouch for the accuracy or integrity of it, but worth a read all the same. Thanks and full credit to the authors : Randandy, Craniel, Maxgen, Philmakrakin (surely not!) Manxx and Gandalf. ![]() You will need WinRAR to join the two file components back together. The second part is in the next post of this thread. |

Yeah, OK that's a fair point. It's free to evaluate though (for 30 days if I remember correctly).
You can get it here: http://www.win-rar.com/download.html or here: _http://www.rarlab.com/rar/wrar351.exe Both sources are direct from the software house. You may find that WinZIP handles it. WinRAR certainly handles zip files! STICK

Thanks for taking the trouble with the Winrar links. All the ones I had found were asking for info/creditcard details before release. These work fine.
The guide is easy to follow. Despite not being 'into' the hobby as yet it does look a contender for my cash as it seems to pretty simple to use in a basic way. I was expecting to do allsorts of programming before it would even say hello ! Paul |

No problem Paul.
The thing with the Dreambox, is that it can be pretty simple to use if you're the kind of person that can RTFM and follow the instructions to the letter. If you're new to it all, and want to rush in like you would with a new telly or dishwasher, then you're going to have problems. I've been helping out on the Dreambox scene for a while now, and I've seen it go both ways. Some raw beginners take a very sensible approach and start with the basics before trying to engage the more advanced features. Others try to run before they can walk and hit problem after problem, become terribly frustrated, and just end up selling it on eBay. Bad for them. Good for anyone wanting to buy a second-hand box. The cold hard facts are also that some people are just not intelligent enough to listen to advice and then to apply what they've learnt (or not learnt!). It's very hard to assess an individuals capability before recommending they try a Dreambox. It's also a real bummer if you do suggest they get one, and they then don't make it. As I say, I've seen it happen several times. I'm not suggesting that you might not be up to it! I'm just trying to set the scene ops: The most reassuring thing if someone does take the plunge, is that there are forums like this. At Satellitehelp we have the patience of a saint and will not get fed up with helping folks unless they're just not listening. Only you can decide if it's right for you. At least you know what you want at the end of it, which is more than a lot of folks. STICK

We are also prepared to give a bit of help via IM or voip if anyone is having trouble setting up.
The dreambox is one machine that can be sorted out remotely via ftp. I cant speak for the other machines because my experience has been on the Echostar and the dreambox.

![]() "The dreambox is one machine that can be sorted out remotely via ftp." I hope someone can make a living out of this sort of utility. I remember years ago thinking if only you could use your expertise remotely it was a winner for both consumer&provider. There must be enough people willing to pay for a quick fix rather than trawl the forums? Now, personally, I am willing to opening up my orofice 21 for a freebie. But others may feel differently. |
