Default Dreambox 7000 history...

Anyone know of some sort of timeline for this model? All I have found so far is it started with a blue display that changed to orange; had a PSU upgrade at some point and may have been fitted with two tuner types over its product life. I'm looking for one so any info could help me choose more.... astutely [ that's a nice word - haven't used it for years ].

Thanks

Hiya,

Sorry, must've missed this one.

It's a long and boring story really. Suffice to say that there have been a few minor mods and tweaks over the years. The very early ones had some stability problems IIRC due to some bad components.

The latest 7000's (Version 4, though it's not much different to 3?!?) with the orange display are the latest, and most of the bugs are sorted.

It still has a poor power supply, an insensitive (deaf) tuner if used in fringe areas or on weak transponders and is both memory (RAM) and CPU-bound.

Fortunately, the flash memory is not a problem due to the USB option, and software/image writers know the limitations and write accordingly. You're stuck with the tuner, and the power supply problem is only really an issue WRT hard drives, so go for a low power consumption 5400rpm (quiet) drive if fitting yourself.

Sometimes they run a bit hot, and a few folks fit CPU cooler fans inside the lid, below the vents (powered from an external power supply I might add!)
