Hi acepeovski, it is important to delete previous versions of drivers before trying to install the new drivers. XP always thinks it knows best and installs the wrong drivers unless it is closely controlled.

I have finally ditched XP from my multiboot system after installing SP3 and getting more problems. I am now running Vista SP1 and everything is working beautifully. My Skystar 2 card with Altdvb is running really well including the BBC HD channel.

Hi Jim, this is slightly off topic, but did you find that the SP1 for Vista worked OK, because I have not installed it yet. I did ask in the local PC shop and they said that it was OK but I was not sure. I shall have to go get it D/L at the shop, though I did ask him if he did not have any on a CD, he said he might get the techie to do a few, so I might get the disk from him.

Very best regards Wez

Yes SP1 seems to have cured a lot of problems on Vista and I haven't found any new problems.

Technisat and others make a usb version but I haven't tried one and I dont think most laptops have sufficient grunt to process the signals and decoding.

Unhappy Re: Have a problem with your satellite card?

I feel like smashing my new machine up and I only built it the other day. Well, not the machine. Bloody vista.

I added a skystar 2 PCI card (which has been tested on Ubuntu with Kaffeine - all works).

For the life of me I can't get it all working on the steaming heap that is vista. Everything is so difficult!

This is what I have done thus far - correct me if I have done bad.

1. Turned off user account control
2. Installed 4.4.1 BDA drivers as noted by Jimmy De Fruit.
3. Installed latest release of DVB dream

As I have a monoblock at 13 and 19.2 I have tried mini discq and 1.0 and 2.0 with port 1 as 13 and port 2 as 19.2 and vice versa.

It either crashes or hangs or can't find any channels.

I have also removed the drivers and forced on the 4.4.3 drivers and reinstalled DVB Dream. All with reboots in the pertinent places.

The machine is brand new and more than specified to handle everything.....

I have also tried AltDVB but can't get that working, removed DVBviewer as that never worked.....

Please help, I tried my best - honest.

Hi dinkle. I can understand your frustration. I have just changed my motherboard from an MSI with AMD 64 3200+ to a Foxconn with an Intel E2220 processor and it does not like the SS2 card. What I have found is that if I install the non-BDA technisat drivers and the Dreamviewer programme I get some picture although breaking up a lot.
Obviously, like you, I have a lot of work to do.

Yeah, you knows it.

I have now got the following working:

- ProgDVB on Hotbird 13 (can view clear channels)
Have no idea if you can use vplug with this?
Have no idea if it will cope with a Monoblock?

- DVB Dream
Just freezes up on me

- DVBViewer
Either hangs, or can list channel name in top left hand corner of screen - NOTHING else.

- Alt DVB
Moans about missing gbox plugin on start up
Get AVO: message about not being able to load a graph file?
Hangs and generally does not work at all
An error message about floating point

When I have time I will re-try by removing everything and will make proper notes on the errors.

What I cannot understand is that everything seems to struggle running on Vista. Nothing just works. I know that XP was a similar scenario when that first come out - but vista has been out a year now.

I primarily am a Linux user, but don't get me wrong - I have been patient with Vista.

Surely there must be a way to use vplug type stuff under Linux? Not that I understand how it works on windows!
