Hi jasper37,
Any image you write to flash will overwrite the existing flash image so it is never good to put a newish image on flash. What you should do is to put a well tried image on flash and play about with new images on usb or hard drive. My own current preference is DaVinci 5.3 on flash. I put it there after trying it on usb for some weeks whilst I made sure it was stable and reasonably free from bugs. You should not have any trouble putting the Boxman image on multiboot if you have DaVinci 5.3 or 5.4 on Flash. I have recently tried the 2gether stormbreaker, DaVinci 5.4, M-Team, Gemini 2.7, DNTeam and PLi Emerald images on multiboot and have found various problems with most of them. My current favourite is the 2gether Stormbreaker V2 image with DaVinci 5.4 a very close 2nd. Some purists say you must have an official image on flash. IMO I think that is a load of twaddle. I have had more problems with official images than independent images so I use the ones I like. I have not tried the Boxman image but I believe there are some bugs which will be ironed out in time. Whilst you can put multiboot on a hard drive, I prefer using a usb stick so that the hard drive is not running most of the time.

I have just this minute finished loading the Boxman image from today (April 02) into flash, and will soon be loading Gemini 2.8 and several others onto USB.
A year or so back I would have said that you should load an official DMM image in flash, but since they have stopped releasing official images I agree with Jim that any stable image in flash is OK. Don't poo your pants though if it goes wrong. As long as you have got a null-modem cable, you can always sort it out with Dream-up. I'll post some screenshots of the update process a bit later so that others can see what it looks like before they try it too. I suspect that you'll be finished before me though ![]() Good luck, and let us know how you get on. Jim is definitely right about the USB stick as well. USB is the best thing since, err, HDD recording! STICK

It's all pretty straightforward once you've done it a few times.
Some folks say you should always use a null modem cable, but I don't agree with that. Unless you like pain, use FWP! If it all goes tits-up (very rare) that's the time to get your slow and clunky cable out. Today's Boxman seems to work OK, but I'll probably never boot it in full ever again. My top tips? 1) Make sure you have the right image, and not one for a different model like the 7020 or 500. 2) Only download from reliable sources, like IHAD, SDT and here etc. 3) If you want a stable image on your satellite box, just load the minimum satellite plugins, not games and wotnot! 4) Make sure your Internet connection is set up correctly. A Dreambox without an Internet connection is just a fancy housebrick ![]() STICK

You're very welcome m8.
![]() I hope you stick around a while and share your experiences. What images did you load, and what do you think of them?
