After three hours, you're not even warmed up

Don't panic. You've bought a nice receiver and I'm sure we can help you get all those channels you hoped for. I think you'll be very impressed with it when it's all bedded in.

Was the receiver 'patched' when you bought it, do you know?

Can you see a channel list, or can you only see a very few channels listed?

Did you see lots, and then only a few after your 'power scan'?

Most of the channels should have been pre-programmed when you bought it.

Have a read of the manual, and see how to access the transponder list. Try just scanning the BBC World transponder - 12597 MHz, Vertical, SR 27500, FEC 3/4. You might have to input those four pieces of information if it's not in the existing transponder list, but it's probably there somewhere.

Forget the 'power scan' for now, and try and find the normal scanning menu.

Is your LNB skew about right for these two satellites? Is your coax up to the job for digital? When was the last time you used the coax? Could it be damp or even full of water?

I doubt any of those things are a major problem. Focus on the manual and how to perform the scans for now.

Good luck. Keep with it, and come back and let us know the results, regardless of how you get on.

thanks for the reply

I ll have to be patient, this is all unfamiliar.

at least I managed to get 3 channels on hotbird.

on analogue I was often on the astra channel with all those german channels

I think it was astra 19 degrees.

the cables ok i was watching on analogue a few weeks ago

the lnb is universal

anyway I put the dish to the german channels
(19 degreess I think )

i went in the software and set the sat as astra 19 degrees

I did a power scan and about 66 channels came up

the signal strength was 80 sometimes 89

all the channels were listed in the box I thought right what now ?

I went out of menu and a blue oblong came up

no channels please install channels

so im in a bit of a limbo

Hi redrobbo,
did you read the set up guide that came with your Technomate? I have just visited the Technomate web site and downloaded the quick set up guide for the TM 8000, which I assume is similar to your receiver:
Fixed Installation:
Turn on the receiver. In the Main Menu, go to No.3 Reset (Factory Default) and press OK three times. Menu Select will appear. Select Main Menu and press OK.

Use << or >> (left and right arrows on the remote) to go to Installation Menu
(DO NOT USE EASY INSTALLATION). Select Satellite Setup and press OK. Then Press OK on No.1 One Satellite. Use >> (right arrow) and select, for example, 13degree Hotbird and press OK. Go to No.6 Auto Search and press OK. Check whether the signal and quality in the progress bar is more than 50%. Press OK to search. Repeat if you want more than one satellite to be tuned.

If this does not apply to your receiver, or doesn't help, please post back and I will try to find a more definitive manual.
Best wishes
Mickha
When you finally get used to your new receiver you might want to view a few more channels, which is when you'll discover the benefits of the Technomate and the term patching. In order to do this you will require the correct version of Darkman's patch.

Hey, nice one Mickha.

I wish Technomate would put all the proper manuals on-line. It would make advising people much easier when dealing with these sorts of queries. I can't believe they get away with not doing it in this electronic age.

As and when I get hold of any, I'll certainly post them in the Technomate section.

I* had* the* dish* pointing* to* what* I* thought* was
astra* 19 degrees,
* I* went* out* and* gave* the* dish* a* tweek,* I lifted* the* screw* up* and* let* the* dish* tilt* about* half* an* inch* * then* I* did* a* new* scan

I* left* the* menu* and* the* *pics* were* there....on* screen
I* went* to* sort* and* * there* are* about* 500* channels

I ll* have* to* retry* the* hotbird* position* later,* there* must* be* more on* there* than* the* 3 channels I* got

but* for* *now* *I ve* got* my* hands* full* with* *19* degrees* east

I* wonder* if* theres* a* way* you* can* sort* the* free* channels* and* get* them* all* together* so* you* can* easily* * * flick* thru* them ?
* there* must* be* *100* or* so* free* to* air* channels* on* there

Hi redrobbo,
How to Make Favourite Channels

In Main Menu, press OK on Edit Channels. In Edit Channels menu, press OK on No.3 Edit TV Channels. Use << or >> to select the Favourite name you created. Go to No.1 Add Favourite and press OK. In the left window, select the channels you want and press OK. The selected channel will transfer to the right hand window. Press Exit to save

How to Move / Rearrange Channels

In Main Menu, press OK on Edit Channels. In Edit Channels menu, press OK on No.3 Edit TV Channels. Select No.4 Rearrange Channels and press OK. For example, go to channel No.7 and press OK. It will be highlighted. Then move No.7 to No.1 and press OK. As a result, channel No.7 will swap positions with channel No.1. Press Exit to Save.

How to Rename Channels

In Main Menu, press OK on Edit Channels. In Edit Channels menu, press OK on No.3 Edit TV Channels. Select No.5 Rename channels and press OK. Enter any name you want and select store. Press Exit to save.

But if you applied the patch you could also watch a lot of the scrambled channels, at the moment, on 19.2E, all the D+ package of channels, and TPS on Hotbird. Have a look at lyngsat.com for what is available.
Best wishes
Mickha

Not* like* on* the* *sky* box* where* all* the* channels* are* fixed

Ive* also* managed* to* loop* the* techmate* thru* my* sky* box* so* now* everything* is* going* into* my* dvd* recorder

by* the* term* patch* do* you* mean* a* smart* card* of* some* kind ?* *it* would* be* great* to* get* into* some* of* those* encrypted* channels,* there* must* be* *300* *or*more * encrypted* on* there.

Hi redrobbo,
a patch is a bit of software designed by enthusiasts to work on particular receivers and open channels, you load the patch, via your computer, into your receiver using a null modem cable. How to load the patch:

Thanks to Darkman

Info
Winzip installed on your PC/Laptop (google for it)

1 null modem cable

Note: To check the current date of firmware on your TM7XXX press "Menu" on your remote and scroll over to

"Information". With the "Ch+/-" keys highlight "System Information" and press "Ok" on the remote. It will show

the current firmware date on your receiver.

1)Download the patch and the loader to a folder on your PC (e.g C:\TM7XXX)

2)Double click the patch zip file you downloaded and choose to extract it to a folder within the TM7XXX folder called "patch".

3)Double click the loader zip file you downloaded and extract it to a folder within the TM7XXX folder called "Loader".

4)Connect the one end of the null modem cable to the com port on the back of your PC/Laptop.

5)Ensure that your TM7XXX is switched off and connect the other end of the null modem cable to the TM7XXX com port.

6)Switch on your TM7XXX and press the "Menu" button on the remote control.

7)From the folder where you extracted the Loader e.g.(C:\TM7XXX\Loader) double click the ITLINK35.exe

8)In the "Firmware Download" area of the loader click the browse button and locate the patch that you extracted earlier eg (C:\TM7XXX\Patch)

9)Click on the "Download" button. A progress bar will appear on your PC/Laptop and a message will appear on your TV screen saying firmware is being loaded. Once the firmware upgrade is complete your TM7XXX will shutdown and restart.

10)Congratulations you've patched your TM7XXX (TM7XXX)

THANKS
thats interesting, it will open up some of
the encrypted channels will it ?

I few years ago when I bought a sat box I think it was for thor, I think it was a d mac box or something. you could get a 4 number code from the net and programme the box to keep your card up to date.
I did nt have a comp back then so I never got to do it
I went out last night, looking at the tv thru the window. I moved the dish about a foot off beam,
and the sat pic stayed on the tv ! there must have been about 5 or 6 seconds before it disappeared,
I dare say because the digi pic is stored in the software etc.
with analogue the pic would go instantly which was good, because if you hit a satellite the pic came up instantly.
Im thinking that I might have had big problems finding the astra sat if I had nt marked its position with the old analogue

my 1 .25 metre dish is just bolted to a concrete flag, its not fixed and installed level so Ive always been a bit hit and miss.
Maybe theres new equipment out there to help locate the satellites.
for the moment I m pleased with the astra sat,
the pics are great quality.
That patch idea seems interesting. I don t have a
laptop, maybe I could figure out a cable between my tower comp and the digi box
