Default scart leads..

i've noticed they range in price, from cheap n cheerful black plastic at £2.oo a go or gold plated or heavy metal connections from £8.99 upwards.

is there any real difference or just a marketing ploy?

There is a difference in picture quality, if you are an AV perfectionist. Some people are prepared to pay a lot more for a bit of improvement. I am talking £30 or £40 or more but I personally think "you pays your money and takes your choice".

If you are happy with what you get with a cheap scart lead then go for it.

Screening of the individual leads; and there are plenty of them, seems to be worth considering. Having gold plate appears to be just marketing. When I see a lead that costs more than what it is connecting I get suspicious. If you sell it or buy it...you are going to at least pause before trashing it. I think you just have to try it - a £2 - 10 - 40 lead. There is a fine history in the Hifi world of selling cables for silly money and it is still going strong after 30 yrs - if you have golden ears, or in this forums case golden eyes so be it. It just moves into an area that is so subjective only you can decide.

Yes, that's so true. I just buy the £10 leads and hope they're of similar quality to the components used in the other equipment I own

The audio thing is just snobbery beyond a certain point IMHO, but it's true to say that a tiny minority of individuals have good enough hearing to tell the difference when used with equally ridiculously priced components.

Emm....bit unprovable whichever end you look at it.

£10 a cable seems a sensible compromise.
