Hi tinteiros and :welc1:

Well, yes and no, although I've not played with it personally.

There is plenty of information on the Skystar and various code on the Linux platform here.

So there are drivers etc, but you could never really replicate the Dreambox per se, as none of the code would run on the x86 PC architecture.

The appealing thing would be to run the Skystar on Linux with the i386 compiled Newcamd executable cardsever/emulator. It would logically work in exactly the same way as a Dreambox, and could even support Dreambox clients as far as card sharing goes. It just wouldn't be 'compatible'.

So as I said, yes and no. You could of course take all the source and recompile it yourself (if you could get hold of it). That would get very close, but other than as an experiment, it would be pretty pointless when you can just by a Dreambox.

I think the really interesting question would be "can you do it on a Mac?" as I believe that some of them use the same Power-PC chip.

I could be wrong, I'm just thinking out loud now

Please let us know if you do have a play. It would be very interesting

Well, I have both and you can do a lot with the Skystar 2 but IMHO the dreambox does a lot more and better.

If you are strapped for cash then the PCI card is a good route but if you have the cash and like playing, then the dreambox is more fun.

I get a lot of pixellating on my SS2 so I usually prefer to stream video from my dreambox to my pc using Dreamview.
