Default HDTV on the Skystar2

Just been chatting on another forum about the Skystar2 and it's ability to decode DVB-S HDTV.

Some folks were using very impressive PC specifications and CoreAVC H264 codecs and that's great, but it's also possible to do it with a clean machine of much more humble breeding. When I say clean, I mean large, fast (SATA), defragged HDD, no other programs running in memory (apart from essential OS stuff) and other optimised hardware and software. Nothing special, just no rubbish spyware or puke-filled registry etc.

Now, please don't go and buy this hardware and blame me when it doesn't work, I'm just chewing the fat here

Athlon XP2500 1.82GHz CPU on an ASUS A7N8X Rev2 Deluxe nForce2 motherboard
Sapphire Radeon 9600XT 128MB AGP graphics card
1GB of PC3200 (DDR400) RAM
200GB healthy SATA HDD

There is some pixellation when watching the video and recording at the same time, but one of the two on its own causes no problems whatsoever

Attached picture grabbed with the above setup.

Just had a look at Astra HD on my SS2 and Progdvb. Very impressive but my pc system and graphics card is not up to it, the piccy kept freezing.

Oh well all I have to do now is win the lottery coz I dont expect dogy Gordon to put my pension up.

I have installed an ATI Radeon X800 GTO 256 MB video card and now Astra HD on 19.2E is rock steady using Skyview.
My PC is a Gigabyte MB with an Athlon XP 2400+ processor and 768 MB memory.

All I have to do now is find the right codecs for the BBC HD channel and i'll be like a kid with a new toy.

Hey, good news Jim.

The Astra HD channel is only mpeg-2, and I think you'll find that the rest of your PC will not be enough to run an mpeg-4 codec.

Hope I'm wrong, but I don't think so

I'm seriously toying with having a go at this myself, but I'm going to have to chuck some cash at it.

I have an XP2500 with a gig of DDR400 RAM at the moment
