Default 20th anniversary of Chernobyl

Hard to believe that the 25th April is the 20th anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. Some of the programmes analysing the accident have chilling stories about how young army conscripts were sent onto the roof of the reactor to throw highly radioactive materials back into the gaping hole in the roof....... 3 minutes on the roof gave them a lifetimes radiation dose.

Maybe we should pause for a few moments to remember the brave guys who gave their lives to try to mitigate the effects of the explosion. What their efforts achieved is debatable but at least the tried, and many died horribly after doing it - Even fairly recently there were still areas of the Lake District and north western Scotland where the sheep were too radioactive to eat thanks to Chernobyl fallout.
