Default BBC HD

Does anyone have the BBC HD channel running on their PC Card? If so, what codecs etc are you using.

I have the Astra 1 HD test channel running ok but get frequent breakup due, I think, to my slow video card.

I think they're now running in MPEG4 Jim, so we have no chance

You can, but you have to have a 3 Ghz processor or faster and an mpeg4 codec like coreAVC.

I'm going to be posting an article on this very subject on the front portal, hopefully later today if you're interested.

Well, I've written the article I promised above, but I didn't like the way it read, so I'm rewriting it

In the mean time, you can try this method. As I said, you will need a very fast dual-core CPU and at least 128Mb graphics card, probably 256Mb.

This method uses Skyview (a freebie), and the CyberLink or Elecard/Mainconcept H.264 codecs that come with PowerDVD 7.
I've cribbed this walkthrough. I haven't tried it myself as my CPU is only an Athlon XP2500 and therefore probably not up the the job.

1) Install PowerDVD 7 Deluxe. It has to be the Deluxe version I believe.

2) Download and install (from skyview.pl site) the following two versions of skyview:
SkyView - 2005 bez limitu czasowego (No timelimit) 1.5093.0.2705 / 3182

3) Replace the two files with this update: SkyView - multicard & multiinstance wersja testowa z modyfikacjami dla RMH+ Skyview.EXE/SkyAVC.ax ver.1.5113.0.4452/3243NET 10.05.2006

4) Set video filter in Skyview to "CyberLink H.264/AVC Decoder (PDVD7)", if you can't see this filter then you haven't got PowerDVD 7 options configured correctly.

5) Scan for BBC HD Channel on 28E 10847 V DVB-S - 22000 5/6, you should see a channel called "6940" - it has a SID of 6940.

6) Change the VPID from zero to 090E hex (2318 dec). Note: You should enter the hexadecimal value here.

f) If you have a Dolby Digital receiver, then you can hear the AC3 5.1 sound if using a suitable codec such as the nVidia's PureVideo Audio Codec.

Thanks for that mate
Seems there's still no way without 'purchasing' a codec though
