Hi, I'd thought I'd share my friends comments for interest.... i've copied his email in full below
Hi Al, The picture quality was hugely improved as I could switch between the HD transmission on HD1 and the SD transmission on ITV - the footage being exactly the same, and with my amp set to the ITV commentary, I had a English soundtrack to the HD picture too ! I have a Crystalio scalar on the output of my Sky+ unit to de-interlace and scale up the SD to the native resolution of my panel (1366x768) - even with the SD footage processed by this - the HD was far superior (1080i). What I did notice was that even at HD, there were some artefacts present in the picture, this was mainly during close-up camera pans of players running against the background of the spectators/fans in the stadium - the artefacts being in the fast moving background. I *believe* that the HD1 transmission is MPEG2 and not MPEG4, this *may* account for this. The other test channels are all very good. Just waiting for the BBC patch to be released by HUMAX now… Rgds Mo. I'm really champing at the bit to get my HD receiver !!! Bilbo

Yes, I must admit I'm very excited by HD. If I had an HDTV, I'd be chasing a receiver too, but as I only have my 19" PC monitor the most I'll be doing just yet is to chuck a few hundred pounds at providing my aging PC with enough horsepower to run my Skystar in mpeg-4 mode.
