Default Total newbie in need of some help!!

Hey im jim!!

I got the lidls camping free to air dish set today however i am need of some help on a few of the things-

I would rather not drill holes in the wall and have seen this on ebay (and in a previous lidl set that was all over the shop floor!!) however its from germany and was wondering is there anywhere in uk that does something like this-

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/cable-for-wind...QQcmdZViewItem

Also the set only came with 10m of coax cable which is a bit useless. I have looked around at coax cable however there seems lots of different prices and types so could anyone point me in the direction of some cheapish quality coax cable of around 25m in length??

Cheers Jim

Hello Jim

:welc1: to the sat-club!

Yeah, you can get those flat cable pieces in the UK. Just had a look - I thought they had them at Brymar, but can't find them now.
I'll have a look in a bit. In fact I think there's a link to them on the forum here somewhere... :spite:

I get all my cable from tlc-direct.co.uk. Good quality, good value.

Don't just buy the junk from B&Q though. Make sure it's copper double-shielded if poss. Look for CT100, PF100 or similar. Check TLC for spec.

I'll go chase down that link for you

Satcure sell the flat section cables.

About half way down the page:

Not cheap but if it saves drilling holes....

Knew I'd seen one somewhere

Or if you're into eBay... there's one in the UK here for a fiver delivered.

You need this really:

http://tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/CAPF100B.html

This is exactly what I have. Not worth cutting corners IMHO

If you don't want to buy from TLC you can at least see the sort of specifications you should be aiming at.

This is the minimun sort of spec really. You can spend lots of money if you're a perfectionist!

No problem Jim.

I was down at TLC today buying all the bracketry and whatnot to build my revolutionary 12' 3 dish tower.

I hate drilling holes too, so I'm re-using the mount/bolt-holes from my minidish installation. Pics to follow in the next week or two

I still havent got hold of the wire yet (delivered tomorrow i hope) but i thought id have a go with the lidl wire that is a load of rubbish and see how easy it is to line the dish up.......

.......so i was fidling about however the signal quality and intensity was not really moving much give or take 1or 2% even when i pointed it at ground to see if it would go down however i couldnt get a signal at all and i couldnt even get the signal quality and intensity to increase.

I then took the cable out the reciever/decoder thing and it still stayed the same so for some reason having a dish and wire set up didnt make a blind bit of difference!!

What is it that im doing so wrong??

Im guessing its the wire but if the reciever box is staying same with no wire it might be that despite the reciever box functioning through the channel guide perfectly with no problems even if there is no signal.

Also is there any tips on setting up a dish as i want it at astra 19.2 e which means there is very little margain for error.

cheers jim
