Default Decibel values

LNBs carry a db value - e.g. 0.3db. What does this refer to - do you look for the lowest figure, as they seem to vary between 0.2 and 0.6.

Yes, that's the noise figure. It should be as low as possible, but 0.6dB or lower is good.

I'm not an expert, but apparently it's impossible to actually achieve a 0.2dB noise figure outside of the laboratory, and many LNB manufacturers are notoriously optimistic when it comes to quoting noise figures.

There is actually really nothing to choose between a 0.3dB and a 0.6dB LNB in terms of noise.

If you are going to be viewing straong signals, then any old universal lnb with a noise value of 0.8dB is going to be fine. You only really need the low noise stuff if you are looking to wring every morsel of a signal out of a dash - if you were an expat desperate for Astra 2D in Spain for instance
