German public broadcasters ARD and ZDF will not transmit any World Cup games on Hotbird. Instead there will be textual information on screen informing viewers about the rights restrictions during games. Their transmissions on Astra 19.2E should remain unaffected but even that is not certain.

Spanish TV station La Sexta is suing the Germans claiming that the FTA World Cup coverage on Astra is in breach of their exclusive rights contract, however it's predicted that the lawsuit is unlikely to succeed.
