Default Movies 24 confirm launch details

A brand new movie channel showing movies "created purely for TV" will officially launch on 1st July on the Sky platform.

Broadcasting 24 hours-a-day, 7 days a week, Movies 24 will feature the best of recent made-for-television films from major studios and independent producers.

The channel will become available on EPG 329 from 26th June however it will officially launch and become 24 hours a week later.

The channel is hoping to occupy previously unfilled space in the multi-channel arena.

According to a spokesperson for the channel: "It fulfills the specific viewer need for fictional entertainment that exists on a level between programme series and blockbuster movies. In this way it is clearly differentiated from its competitors, who either show a mix of blockbuster movies and made-for-TV movies, such as Sky Movies or True Movies which purely shows movies based on real life stories, or TCM which are older/classic movies."

"It shows compelling drama and familiar talent. From the heart-warming to the heart-wrenching and the emotional to the erotic, movies 24 provides a blend of engaging and highly desirable programming, all hand-picked to best serve the needs of men and women alike across a wide demographic during all day parts."

"Viewers will find the scheduling perfectly fits their viewing habits with softer romance, comedy and action programming airing in the day, satisfying the largely female daytime audience. Thrillers, crime and murder mystery programming will air in the evening, appealing to both a male and female audience and on Friday and Saturday nights, erotic programming will air post midnight."

Movies 24 will be part of the Sky variety mix package.

The owners of Movies 24 are Sparrowhawk Media who also own the UK version of the Hallmark Channel.
