Hi,
I'm a new person;i have found your forum most helpful so far, i have followed your advice to others and got myself a technomate 1500 ci and a motorized dish with diseqc 1.2. I have 1 concern, re cable length ( coax i mean, is there any length not to exceed, will it be affected if run near mains cables, or space blanket loft insulation). TIA |

Hi annakissed. Glad you've found our forum of interest and use!
![]() Regarding length, if you use CT100 (which is double screened) then you can actually get away with quite a long run. I guess that keeping the overall length under 40m would be optimal (the shorter the better...) but I've heard of runs of over 100m that work OK. That's pretty excessive, but you get the point. Your loft insulation shouldn't cause a problem unless you live right on top of a powerfull transmitter, and neither should mains cables, but you should try to keep a few inches away from the latter if at all possible, especially on a long cable run. Try to run your cable in a single length with no joins if possible, as each connection introduces a little signal loss which (along with the increased chance of interference) is your biggest problem with long runs anyway. In an ideal situation satellite cables should be routed as far away from mains cables as possible, and if they have to cross them, then they should cross at right angles. Of course in most installations this isnt possible and they work perfectly well.
Also try not to coil any excess cable up near mains cables.
