Expert’s advice will be much appreciated.
I found following info from a website and like to know more to reconfirm that I can get BBC HD channels without buying a HD Receiver: LG 37" LCD HDTV Model No. 37LC2D 37" LCD HDTV: Get a picture with excellent brightness and outstanding detail from a television set that is stylishly thin at only 5.1" deep. Built-in HD tuner: With the 37LC2D, it isn't necessary to buy a separate high-definition receiver. The HD (ATSC) tuner is integrated, so you can receive HD programming right out of the box. The HD picture resolution is 1366 x 768 (720p, effective). Picture refinements: LG's exclusive XD Engine™ upconverts lower resolution signals to near-HD quality and reduces signal noise, while the TV's 1600:1 contrast ratio ensures that images are bright and vivid not dull looking. Plus, the TV's wide 178° viewing angle means that the picture looks great wherever you sit in the room. Enhanced audio: Enjoying booming surround sound thanks to the 30-watt, two-speaker system and the SRS TruSurround audio enhancement feature. Widescreen: The widescreen (16:9) aspect mode screen displays movies in their true cinematic format without picture cropping or resizing. Full array of A/V cable connections: Features HDMI, component video, composite video, S-video, RGB (PC), digital audio out and RF connections. ![]() Source: http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/produ...cfkmdffhdfli.0 |

That link is dead here m8, but as per your title, I would suspect that it's a terrestrial tuner built in.
Whilst the BBC are carrying out HD terrestrial trials in London (from Crystal Palace) I guess you would be lucky if the specific transmission protocols were supported (hmmm, I feel another MBAFF-type migraine coming on...) but you never know. If you happened to buy one anyway and lived in London it would be interesting to know, but I wouldn't buy one on the strength of it working with the very limited trial-group tests. ![]() STICK

Yeah, it's an ATSC (Advanced Television Systems Committee) HD terrestrial tuner designed for use in the US. This is the HD equivalent of NTSC (National Television System Committee).
It's not satellite, and I can't see that it would work in Europe as it uses completely different audio and video components (see http://www.atsc.org/guide_default.html). Just reading up about it, it has been a federal requirement for such tuners to be fitted to certain new TV's imported into the US for quite a while. I found this explanation on tv.about.com. Important ATSC Tuner Compliance Dates As if the digital television mumbo jumbo wasn't confusing enough, but July 1, 2005, marked an anniversary of sorts for television manufacturers across the world. In a 2002 mandate by the FCC, all televisions with screen sizes over 36" must include a built-in ATSC DTV tuner if entering the USA. While this doesn't do anything for sets made before July 1, it does offer hope for those who wonder why digital TVs don't already come with the necessary tuner. Here's a list of other important dates and the consumer electronics devices they affect: * July 1, 2006 - 100% of 25-35" TVs must include ATSC DTV tuner (right now only 50% required) * July 1, 2007 - 100% of 13-24" TVs must include ATSC DTV tuner * July 1, 2007 - 100% of all interface devices must have ATSC DTV tuner (VCR, DVD player/recorder, DVR)

They have confused giving same model number in the US and other places.
Yes, I agree with you. The built-in HD tuner is applicable only to the US market. |
