Hello m8.

It's hard to imagine your wire and dish scenario. I think we would need you to upload some pictures to work out what it is. Can you do that?

Also, if you could tell us where you are, the make and model of your receiver, and the size, type and age of your dish and LNB etc. we would have a good chance of figuring out some answers to your problems

Regards,

STICK

hi ya..

sorry i didn't explain very well:
my mate gave me the dish he found the thing so i had it. say's satalite on it. my box is PACE black box is few years old but works fine.. i wanted to try out this dish see if it works looks as if it can do a lot more than sky's dish, well i hope it can, yes well the dish i have is aluminium i think it is or tin but is not rusty only on a backing plate round pice that holds the aluminium dish in place this sat looks pretty old but not bad for the age could be about 18 years old only a guess, sort of white in colour the reciver is big square block also has a moter inside due to having a look buy taking 2 bolts off a small cover also has this wire coming from it very thin with red, white, black, dish size is about 20 inch or more bout size of a dustbin lid, has also 3 poles from the sat holding up the reciver also a cable input on it 2. what's a lnb havn't a clue what this is ? i check the model out as there is 1 on it last time i checked, also i did a check on the net but didn't find much about it. i post all numbers in a bit when have another look but still i would like to no what this wire is for ok thanks back in a bit

Hi loneride,
it sounds like the wires are from an old motor on your dish set up, which would have moved the dish East and West to pick up various satellites.
I doubt very much if it still works as some cheaper motors only have a life of 3-5 years, you can test it by connecting the wires to a 12 volt battery and seeing if it moves.
My motor has 4 wires Red and Green to move the motor, Black is ground and white is pulse which counts the positions for moving the dish to the correct spot.
The LNB, Low Noise Block down converter, is the important part of your set up, this gathers the signal, collected by your dish, converts it and sends it to your receiver, this may need replacing, depending on its age and condition.
If you are using the dish as part of a fixed system, only pointing at one satellite, then ignore the motor or remove it.
I tried searching for the model number you have provided but can't find anything, can you please check that it is correct.
What satellites are you hoping to receive with your system?
Best wishes
Mickha

Yes, I think Mickha's right. If you look closely, you'll probably find a fourth wire.

I think that there's also some confusion over what some of the parts are called. The bit that houses the motor is actually just referred to as 'the motor', and it's sounds like it's of the type known as Horizon to Horizon if it's box-shaped.

The box you have indoors, your 'PACE' Sky box, is the receiver. Does it have a model number on the back? What' s it plugged into now (a Sky minidish?) and what channels can it receive?

How is your new dish mounted? Is it on some kind of stand?

The LNB (Low Noise Block down converter) is the part in front of the dish, at it's focal point. This is the part that you might have to change for a new item. They are only around £10 for a good basic one. See picture attached.

Based on your model number, I think you have a receive/transmit antenna!

Either that, or maybe a C Band LNB with co-rotor...

Please post some pictures, as I don't think you're not dealing with any kind of standard kit

I think you're going to have to replace that lot with something a little less complicated for what you want.

While we're on that subject, what is it you actually hope to achieve with this dish? Do you just want to see what it can do?
