Default irish satellite problem

We import a van from Germany.

It has a CARO Digital Oyster receiver, Sat finder and dish on roof.

It worked in Germany.
We can get it to Astra2 on TV.
But the dish just keeps going round and round trying to fine Astra 2.

What do we do?
We have tried it in France and in Ireland and no joy.
Can you help please.
Just basic programmes ie News Football or anything.

Is the dish one of these?

Don't know much about these systems myself, but I'm prepared to do a little digging for you as it's quite interesting

OK, give me a day or two to have a rummage around and find some info, but my thoughts right now are that at 50cm x 50cm your problem might just be a question of size, especially in France.

Also, what sort of receiver (make/model) do you have? If it were an older analogue box for example, you won't find anything on Astra2, whereas it'll work fine for loads of German channels on 19.2E. I wonder if that's it... :spite:

Have you ever had it working on Astra 2 at 28.2E, for example, right in the middle of the beam shown here?

Try it in Wexford on the south east coast of Ireland
Also in Northern France. Nothing happen.
Just aerial spining around.

Nothing wriitten on box, its attach to wall of Camper.

Yes I think it was Astra 1 when it worked in Germany.
Attach 2 photo. ([img][/img]Hopefully)
Don't know how old it is.
Our Motorhome is 2004.
But the box could be a lot older.

I'm guessing it's an analogue box. Can you get the German Astra1 channels from where you are now? If so, which ones?

If you could check in the menu system on the receiver and look at the channel settings, that should tell us. If it just says frequency and polarisation it's analogue and no good for Astra2. If it has entries for SR and/or FEC, then the problem lies elsewhere.

To attach photos, click 'Additional Options...' under the normal message box, then the 'browse' button to locate your photo.

Hi Nora,
Is your system the same,as the link, that BGonaStick has posted.
If it's the same as this one, manufactured by Ten-Haaft,then this connects to a digital receiver, not analogue.
http://www.leisurepower.co.uk/acatalog/Caro.html.
Here's the instuctional manual for the Caro Oyster system:http://www.ten-haaft.de/download/Oy4...gi_english.PDF
Hope that helps.

Hey, nice find SAT-WORLD

Yes, from Nora's post of the menu detail, it's clear that it's a digital receiver. Having a quick look through the manual, it looks as if the antenna is effectively totally independent of the receiver in terms of it's control and operation.

Nora, there seems to be quite a lot of useful information in that manual, so have a good read. To be honest, if you can't get it to work after that then it may be worth having it looked at by a specialist, as it's certainly a very expensive and sophisticated piece of kit.

From a general point of view, there are really only two things that we can advise.

Firstly, the antenna needs to be large enough to receive the signals from any given satellite, based on where you are. This means that not all satellites are going to be available to you at any given location. Astra2 though, should be no problem in Ireland or northern France with your antenna.

Secondly, you must make sure that the dish can see the required satellite in the sky. That means that it needs to see 'up' at an angle of around 25 degrees or more for Europe.

As your vehicle could be parked in any orientation (north, south, east, west etc.) it needs to be able to see all around it at this angle. If there is anything in the way, it will not work, so try it parked in the middle of a field as a test!

Hope the manual helps to solve your problem. Let us know how you get on.
