Default Rearranged Channels

Thought I would start again after all the information about the new Satellite Astra 1KR at 19.2E whose progress I have been following over the last few weeks. Channels seems to be changed over quite well after two days or so of some confusion.

So I erased ALL channels (from three satellites) on my Fortec Classic Lifetime box, and began again at 28.2E. The Old Scottish Television ITV has been re-labelled by my box as "stv" in small case, and the old Grampian, similarly is now labelled "stv". Presumable the satellite tells the box the name of the channel. The only difference seems to be local and very local news. Grampian was based in Aberdeen, 165 miles away from where I live in Paisley, and used to carry quite different programmes, but they are now all under the SMG Group. I then rearranged them into alpabetical order and all is well. The Streams are fully used just now, for tennis and football.

Then a quick move to 19.2E and the scanned channels are placed in the box after the first lot. Finally, another move to 13E and the Hotbird group scanned perfectly. I kept the channels from the last two satellite channels in transponder order. The trick is, when using "Channel Manager", never, ever to press alphabetical order once all the satellites have been scanned, because a grand alphabetical order of channels from three satellite positions and hundreds of channels is a nightmare to find!!

Most of our viewing is from 28.2E so the alphabetical order works well. Signal strength is pretty good from Paisley, Scotland with signal strength on all the BBC and ITV stuff about 77% and quality about 75%.

A final word - ITV4 seemed to be missing as I had done all this in the afternoon when they don't transmit programmes. I re-scanned at night, and, hey presto, up came ITV4 which I have now moved into the grand scheme of things.

Hope that gives some clues.

Thanks for that Diapason

However,I wish the fta receivers(assuming that they all don't) would offer the option of being able to store/sort channels, according to the different satellite position,if you have a multi lnb set up or motorised, rather than A-Z,FTA/CAS,Favourite/Non Favourite.
I'm able to view the channels according to transponder,in menus only.
An option that would let you toggle between different satellites channel list would be great.

Some STBs allow you to arrange by satellite etc.

Some receivers also have software to manage the channel and transponder lists available for the PC. It's a lot easier to manipulate it all there and then just upload it to the receiver It also makes a good backup for when you have a little finger (or brain) trouble like me!

Can't find a channel manager for the Classic Lifetime though...

Yes, the channel name is downloaded from the satellite along with quite a lot of other data (audio and video parameters or PIDs).

The thing that drives all this is the transponder list, so check on Lyngsat, Flysat or KingofSat for updates (particularly 19.2E due to the addition of 1KR and the expanded capability) and if you find a new transponders (when compared to what's listed in your receiver) add them and scan. Transponder data and channel lineups change all the time, so it's worth keeping on top of it.

Must admit that I've not had time to keep a close eye on 1KR channel movements ops:

Must confess I entered all the transponders at 28.2E and perhaps I should have set up the transponders on each satellite separately as there are two at that position. But I labelled the name of my "satellite" simply 28E and the box picks up everything that is there. I did the same for 19.2E and 13E. Some day when I have time, I'll tidy up the system even further and have separately listed transponders for each satellite.

But, yes, the sorting is not for the fainthearted. What I did find was that if I made a mistake and accidentally seemed to rearrange everything in a grand alphabetical order, by switching the box off right away, it didn't save the new order and on switiching on again, had the old order untouched. So I've still got 28.2E in alphabetical (which I sorted before adding the others), and then all the others in the same transponder order as I entered them in the first place.

The new 1KR seems to have simply taken over existing frequencies but with a few exceptions and I agree it's worth keeing an eye on what's available.

Good thinking

The Grampain brand disappeared about 3 weeks ago. Sctootish TV decided to rebrand it under the stv banner.
